What It Is

Commercial ant control tuned to the species actually in your building

Ant control is a species problem, not a product problem. Odorous house ants trail along plumbing lines in offices and apartments. Carpenter ants excavate damp wood in older commercial buildings, often signaling a moisture or rot issue behind the scenes. Pharaoh ants are the high-stakes species in Indianapolis healthcare and senior-living environments because they nest in wall voids, trail to IV bags, wound dressings, and food-service areas, and, most critically, fragment their colonies when treated with the wrong product. A repellent spray on pharaoh ants can multiply the problem overnight.

ProTech identifies the species before treating, then selects a protocol that matches both the ant and the environment. Non-repellent baits are the backbone of pharaoh and odorous house ant work, giving foragers time to carry active ingredient back to the queen and brood without triggering budding. Carpenter ant work adds structural inspection for moisture-damaged wood and satellite nest location. Every commercial program is documented for audits, scheduled around operating hours, and executed with low-odor, staff- and patient-friendly materials.

In Their Words
We had pharaoh ants show up in a wing of our skilled-nursing facility and the previous provider treated them with a residual spray. Within a week the trails were in twice as many rooms. ProTech came in the next day, explained exactly why that happened, switched us to a non-repellent bait protocol, and trained our environmental services team on what to look for. The trails were gone in three weeks and have not come back.

How It Works

Our 4-step commercial process.

Structured, documented, and built around the compliance standards your facility faces.

01

Species identification

A technician captures specimens, identifies the species, and inspects trails, harborage, and conducive conditions. Treatment protocol is selected based on the species, not a default product.

02

Protocol-matched treatment

Non-repellent baits, crack-and-crevice work, and perimeter treatment are deployed based on the species and environment. No repellent sprays are used on pharaoh or odorous house ant trails.

03

Colony collapse

Baits give foragers time to share active ingredient with the queen and brood. We monitor trail reduction over two to four weeks before reducing intensity.

04

Maintenance cadence

Recurring visits focus on entry points, exterior perimeter, and historical hot spots. For healthcare we build in EVS training so staff spot new trails before they spread.

What's Included

Every program delivers this baseline.

Specialty services and add-ons layer on based on facility type. This is the foundation.

Species ID

Every ant issue starts with identification, because treatment for pharaoh ants is nothing like treatment for odorous house ants.

Non-repellent baits

The backbone of pharaoh and odorous house ant work — transferred back to the colony without triggering budding.

Carpenter ant survey

Moisture and wood-damage inspection to locate satellite and parent nests, including attic and void checks.

Crack-and-crevice

Targeted treatment at wall penetrations, plumbing lines, and expansion joints where trails concentrate.

Perimeter program

Exterior foundation, landscape, and entry-point treatment to intercept seasonal reintroduction pressure.

Healthcare protocols

Fragrance-free, low-odor, clinical-area-appropriate materials and scheduling aligned with infection control.

Staff training

Short, practical briefings for EVS, housekeeping, and maintenance on trail identification and reporting.

Audit documentation

Written service reports, SDS, and trend logs suitable for CMS surveys, health inspections, and QA audits.

Re-service included

If a trail reappears between scheduled visits, we return at no additional charge.

How We Compare

ProTech vs. typical national pest control.

Most buyers hire a national chain because the brand is familiar — then deal with rotating technicians, sub-contractors, and call centers. Here's how ProTech is structurally different.

Frequently Asked

Commercial Ant Control — common questions.

Why is identifying the ant species so important?+
Because the wrong product makes some species dramatically worse. Pharaoh ants and, to a lesser extent, odorous house ants, respond to repellent sprays by budding — the colony fragments into multiple new colonies and spreads further through the building. What looked like a single trail in one room becomes trails in a dozen rooms within two weeks. Non-repellent baits are the correct approach because foragers carry active ingredient back to the queen and brood without alarm signals.
Do you handle pharaoh ants in healthcare facilities?+
Yes, and pharaoh ants in healthcare are our priority calls. These ants nest in wall voids, trail to IV bags, wound dressings, and food-service areas, and contaminate sterile supplies. Our healthcare-grade program uses non-repellent bait protocols exclusively, low-odor and fragrance-free materials, and access scheduling coordinated with infection control. We also train your environmental services team to identify trails early and report them correctly. Documentation is survey-ready for CMS, Joint Commission, and Indiana State Department of Health inspections.
Can you treat while our office or facility is fully occupied?+
Yes. Most commercial ant work is low-impact and compatible with full occupancy. Baits are placed out of sight at trail sources, in break-room corners, under sinks, and along expansion joints. Perimeter treatment happens outside the building. We do not fog interior commercial spaces, do not spray across food-contact surfaces, and do not use strong-odor materials in clinical or hospitality environments.
What about carpenter ants in older commercial buildings?+
Carpenter ants almost always indicate a moisture issue. They excavate damp, softened wood in roof lines, window frames, deck ledgers, and plumbing walls. Our carpenter ant work begins with locating the parent nest and any satellite nests, then treating directly into galleries and void spaces with non-repellent materials. We also identify the moisture source — a roof leak, failed flashing, plumbing drip, or ground-contact wood — and report it to your maintenance team with photos. Solving the ant problem without addressing moisture is temporary at best.
How long until the trails go away?+
Odorous house ant trails typically collapse within one to three weeks of a correctly executed non-repellent bait program. Pharaoh ant programs usually take three to six weeks for full trail elimination because the colony structure is more complex and the baits must reach multiple queens. Carpenter ant programs depend on whether the parent nest is accessible — treatment of an accessible parent nest collapses the colony quickly, while satellite-only treatment takes longer. We track trail activity at every visit so progress is documented, not guessed.
Will documentation hold up for surveys and audits?+
Every service visit generates a written report detailing species identification, trail locations, products used with EPA registration numbers, application sites, and recommendations. We maintain a service binder on-site with Safety Data Sheets, product labels, technician certifications, and trend logs. This documentation has been reviewed and accepted during CMS surveys, Indiana State Department of Health inspections, Joint Commission visits, and commercial QA audits.
Do you service schools and daycare facilities under Indiana IPM rules?+
Yes. Indiana school IPM requirements emphasize low-impact products, notification protocols, and documentation, which align closely with how we already service healthcare and hospitality accounts. We use non-repellent baits and mechanical approaches first, schedule interior work around student hours where possible, provide required notification materials, and maintain documentation that satisfies state IPM rule expectations.
