Built For Auto Dealers

An auto dealership has four distinct pest environments under one roof — and all of them matter to the brand.

The showroom is a retail space where a single roach or mouse sighting on a customer walk-around costs you a deal and possibly a review. The service bay is an industrial environment with open overhead doors, vehicles being opened and closed all day, and seasonal rodent pressure on inventory parked outdoors overnight. The parts department is a warehouse storing upholstered seat mats, cardboard packaging, foam insulation, and rubber seals — every one of which is a rodent attractant. And the customer waiting area is a cafe-adjacent space with coffee stations, vending, snack displays, and kids' play areas that generate ant and roach pressure if not treated as a food-service-grade environment. One pest program has to address all four without compromising showroom appearance, service-bay sanitation standards, or customer comfort.

ProTech services auto dealership accounts across the Indianapolis-metro dealership rows — the US-31 / Michigan Road auto corridor (Ray Skillman, Andy Mohr, Tom Wood), the north-side I-465 corridor through Carmel and Fishers, the Keystone / 96th Street premium auto row, the I-69 north Noblesville / Westfield expansion, and the Greenwood / I-65 south auto district. Accounts range from single-brand new-car stores to multi-franchise dealer groups, used-car operations, heavy-truck and commercial vehicle dealers, auto body and collision shops, and quick-lube locations. Every dealership has seasonal rodent-in-inventory risk that only gets worse as used-car lots grow.

We're commercial-only and owner-operated on purpose. We know how to coordinate service around a 9am showroom opening, handle a bed bug scare on a trade-in without alarming the service team, and run service-bay rodent programs that hold up to manufacturer brand-standard audits. That's the difference between a pest program built for a dealership and one that shows up at 10:30am during a customer test drive.

Dealership Formats We Service

Every dealership format across the Indianapolis metro.

New-car franchise, used-car, multi-franchise auto groups, heavy-truck, auto body and collision, quick-lube, and RV/marine — we've built pest programs around all of them.

New-Car Franchise Dealerships

Showroom appearance is brand-audit critical. Customer waiting areas get food-service-grade pest pressure. Service-bay rodent programs. Inventory-lot mouse prevention for overnight-parked vehicles.

Used-Car & Pre-Owned Operations

Trade-in vehicles bring unknown pest history — bed bugs, cockroaches, rodent nests in engine compartments from long-sit inventory. Pre-delivery inspection protocols and rapid-response treatment.

Multi-Franchise Auto Groups

Auto Row operators running multiple franchises across Indy-metro. Consolidated pest programs with consistent brand-standard documentation across every rooftop. Dedicated technician rotation.

Heavy-Truck & Commercial Vehicle Dealers

Larger service bays, heavier rodent pressure from open overhead doors, and parts-department inventory with foam/cardboard/rubber attractants at commercial scale. Exterior-heavy programs.

Auto Body & Collision Centers

Paint booth, prep areas, and parts storage. DEQ and EPA stormwater compliance intersects with pest management. IPM calibrated to avoid paint contamination and coordinated with spray-booth schedules.

Quick-Lube & Service-Only Operations

High-throughput service bays, small waiting areas, and limited parts inventory. Exterior rodent programs, waiting-area ant control, and service-bay sanitation monitoring.

Powersports, RV & Marine Dealers

Outdoor inventory exposed to wasps, birds, and rodent nests in stored powersports units over winter. Seasonal exterior programs, exclusion on stored inventory, and showroom bird/wasp prevention.

Service Center Satellite Locations

Off-campus service or body satellite locations run by the parent dealership. Consistent pest program standards with dedicated facility-specific documentation.

Pest Pressures in Auto Dealerships

What Indianapolis-metro dealerships actually face.

Regional pest patterns across Marion, Hamilton, Hendricks, and Johnson county dealership accounts — what we see on service calls, by pressure type and source.

House Mice (Inventory Vehicle Engine Bays)
Very High
Stored new and used inventory, overnight-parked vehicles, long-sit used-car lot inventory

The single most expensive dealership pest problem. Mice enter engine compartments of stored inventory through cabin-air intakes and fresh-air vents, nest on warm components after short runs, and chew wiring harnesses — modern soy-based insulation is particularly attractive. A single chewed harness can cost $800-$3,000 in repair; fleet-wide rodent damage claims on a used-car lot can run into five figures. Exterior perimeter stations, peppermint-oil vehicle-cabin deterrents during long inventory holds, and aggressive outdoor harborage management are the multi-layer defense.

Parts Department Rodents
High
Upholstered seat covers, cardboard packaging, foam insulation, rubber seal inventory, long-tail SKU storage

Parts departments combine everything a mouse wants — cardboard, upholstered fabric, foam, and long-dwell inventory that doesn't get disturbed. Interior monitoring along shelving perimeters, exterior exclusion on receiving doors, and storage-bin protocols keep rodents out of parts inventory before damage occurs.

Overwintering Pests (Cluster Flies, Stink Bugs, Asian Lady Beetles)
Seasonal-High
Showroom glass curtain walls, customer-area south-facing windows, service-bay window framing

Large showroom glass on south and west exposures concentrates overwintering insects every September through November — highly visible to customers and brand-audit negative. Late-summer perimeter exterior treatment on all glass exposures is the only effective prevention. Indoor treatment after the fact is cosmetic.

Ants (Odorous House, Pharaoh, Pavement)
Medium-High
Customer coffee stations, kids play area, break rooms, showroom slab edges

Coffee and snack stations in customer waiting areas generate consistent ant pressure — odorous house ants on sugar residue, pharaoh ants (harder — requires non-repellent bait), pavement ants at slab expansion. Spraying fragments pharaoh ant colonies and makes the problem worse. Bait protocols, not perimeter spray.

German Cockroaches
Medium
Customer waiting-area vending, break rooms, service-bay employee rooms, coffee machines

Vending machine warm motors, break-room coffee makers, and refrigerator gaskets are the harborage — not showroom baseboards. Gel bait + IGR, discreetly placed. Showroom-visible German roach activity is brand-audit negative and a customer-visible problem.

Bed Bugs (Trade-In Vehicles)
Seasonal-Medium
Trade-in vehicle interiors, reconditioning area, service-bay upholstery, loaner fleet

Trade-in and wholesale-purchase vehicles occasionally carry bed bugs from previously infested owner residences. Reconditioning staff handling fabric seats and floor mats can inadvertently spread. Aprehend® treatment on suspect vehicles is the discreet, no-teardown protocol.

House Flies & Bottle Flies
Medium
Open service-bay doors, exterior dumpsters, used-oil drum storage, shop waste

Service-bay overhead doors open all day are fly freeways. Used-oil drums, shop waste, and exterior dumpster placement drive breeding. Exterior sanitation and dumpster positioning are the real fix; aerosol knockdown doesn't solve a source problem.

Wasps, Hornets & Yellowjackets
Seasonal-High
Showroom eaves, service-bay soffits, customer-entry overhangs, inventory-lot sign posts, exterior signage

Customer-entry wasp nests are a liability and customer-experience issue. Inventory-lot sign-post and light-pole nests get disturbed during lot-merchandising work. Spring perimeter inspection and nest removal before peak season prevents customer-sting incidents.

Auto Dealerships Pest Calendar

Dealership pest pressure runs two annual peaks in the Indianapolis metro — rodent activity in inventory and parts surges October through March (the wire-chewing season), and showroom/customer-area overwintering insect activity peaks September through November on south-facing glass. Wasps peak July through October. Customer-area ant pressure runs April through October with coffee and snack traffic. We schedule service frequency around your showroom hours, service-bay workflow, and manufacturer brand-audit calendar.

Regulatory & Brand-Standard Fit

Documentation built for manufacturer audits and customer-facing standards.

Manufacturer brand-standard audits, OSHA, Indiana DEQ (auto body), and EPA stormwater all intersect with pest management in an automotive retail environment. We produce documentation that addresses all of them.

01

Manufacturer Brand-Standard Audits

OEM audits (Toyota, Honda, Ford, GM, Stellantis, premium brands) include facility condition, customer-experience, and fixed-ops operational standards that directly reference pest-free facility expectations. We produce audit-ready documentation — service records, placement maps, product SDS, corrective actions — formatted for manufacturer field representative reviews.

02

OSHA General Industry

Service bay hazard communication and employee-sanitation standards (1910.141, 1910.1200). Our SDS library for pesticides applied on-site plugs into your existing shop-wide hazcom program, and break-room pest management satisfies sanitation compliance.

03

Indiana DEQ (Auto Body)

Collision-center paint-booth, prep, and spray operations are subject to Indiana DEQ air permit requirements that touch on housekeeping and sanitation. Our IPM program coordinates with booth schedules and documents product choices that won't contaminate finish work.

04

EPA Stormwater & Used-Oil Management

Dealerships with exterior service operations face EPA stormwater and used-oil handling rules that intersect with exterior sanitation and pest harborage. Exterior dumpster, used-oil drum, and shop-waste placement affect fly and rodent pressure — and compliance. We coordinate sanitation-based pest prevention with your existing environmental program.

05

Liability & Customer-Experience

A customer bed bug complaint after a test drive or service loaner creates liability exposure and brand damage. Documented Aprehend® treatment on trade-ins, loaner-fleet inspection protocols, and service-bay reconditioning procedures are the prevention — and the paper trail if a claim ever gets filed.

06

Multi-Rooftop Consolidated Audits

Auto groups running multiple rooftops face consolidated manufacturer reviews and dealer-group corporate audits. We produce multi-rooftop rollup reports formatted for GM/fixed-ops-director/corporate-audit-team review, with individual-location detail retained underneath.

Our Process

How we protect your dealership.

01

On-Site Dealership Walk

We walk every space — showroom, customer waiting area, service drive, service bays, parts department, parts receiving, inventory lot, used-car lot, auto body if present, exterior perimeter, dumpster and used-oil storage. Map conducive conditions, overhead-door condition, and live pressure specific to each environment.

02

Custom Pest Plan

Treatment selection and frequency calibrated to each space — customer-facing areas get low-visibility bait-only protocols, service bays get industrial-grade rodent programs, inventory lot gets exterior-focused rodent exclusion, parts gets interior monitoring. One plan with four zone strategies.

03

Targeted Treatment

Low-toxicity, low-visibility products placed in specific harborage — vending motor enclosures, parts-department shelving perimeter, inventory-lot exterior stations. Scheduled around showroom opening, service-bay peak hours, and customer-traffic windows.

04

Ongoing Monitoring & Reporting

Exterior rodent stations across the inventory lot, interior monitoring in parts and break rooms, digital service logs, brand-standard-ready reports every visit. Live dashboard access for multi-rooftop auto groups.

What Dealership Clients Say

Indianapolis-metro GMs, fixed-ops directors, and facility managers.

★★★★★
We lost three vehicles to wiring damage last winter with our previous provider's 'program' that turned out to be two stations behind the dumpster. ProTech scoped a full inventory-lot perimeter, added interior parts-department monitoring, and we've had zero rodent damage claims this winter. Paid for itself on the first claim we didn't file.
Fixed-Ops Director
US-31 Auto Row New-Car Franchise
★★★★★
A trade-in came in with bed bugs last spring and spread to two service-bay loaners before anyone caught it. ProTech treated all three vehicles with Aprehend in one afternoon — no teardown, no taking units out of the rotation for weeks. We now have a standard trade-in inspection protocol they helped us write.
General Manager
Carmel Premium Franchise Dealership
★★★★★
We run five rooftops across Indianapolis, Greenwood, and Fishers. ProTech handles all of them with consistent technician rotation and reports that match across every location. Our corporate audit team finally stopped asking about the pest documentation gaps — they just stopped existing.

Frequently Asked

Auto dealership pest questions.

How do we prevent mice from chewing wiring on stored inventory?
Multi-layer exterior program. Tamper-resistant bait stations on an aggressive perimeter grid around the inventory lot (especially used-car lots with longer-dwell inventory), burrow treatment of any exterior harborage (landscape beds, compost piles, adjacent vacant lots), lot-lighting and landscape maintenance that reduces rodent cover, and seasonal vehicle-cabin deterrent protocols (peppermint-oil sachets in passenger compartment of long-hold inventory) between October and March. No single tactic works alone — a bait station a hundred feet from a vehicle doesn't stop a mouse that's already nested in the engine compartment. The exterior perimeter has to be aggressive enough that populations don't reach the vehicles in the first place. Dealerships with proper programs see rodent-damage claims drop to near zero within one winter season.
A customer saw an ant on the showroom floor — what's the response?
First: don't spray. Showroom ants are almost always from a customer coffee or snack station with sugar or sticky-syrup residue — spraying the ant the customer saw doesn't address the source and can fragment pharaoh-ant colonies into multiple sites. Second: identify. Odorous house ants and pharaoh ants require different bait protocols; misidentification turns a two-week resolution into a two-month problem. Third: treat with non-repellent bait at the source (coffee station drip tray, snack display, vending machine interior). Showroom ant pressure usually resolves within 2-3 weeks of source treatment without any customer-visible product application. Ongoing monitoring prevents recurrence.
Can you treat a trade-in vehicle for bed bugs before we put it on the lot?
Yes — Aprehend® treatment is the standard protocol. A suspect trade-in gets isolated from the reconditioning area, we arrive same-day or next-morning, inspect interior upholstery and seams for bed bug evidence (live bugs, eggs, fecal spotting, shed skins), and treat with Aprehend® inside the vehicle. Aprehend® is an EPA-registered biopesticide that persists on surfaces for up to three months — bed bugs contacting treated surfaces die within 3-7 days without heat treatment or teardown. Vehicle stays out of inventory for 72 hours post-treatment, then returns to reconditioning workflow. Total downtime is 3-4 days versus the 2-3 weeks heat treatment requires.
Our showroom has big south-facing glass and fills up with cluster flies every fall — how do we stop it?
Late-summer perimeter exterior treatment on all south and west-facing glass exposures — applied mid-August to early September, before cluster flies, stink bugs, and Asian lady beetles begin aggregating. Residual exterior treatment prevents surface landing and aggregation; bugs that do arrive don't accumulate on the glass at density. Combined with window-frame and roof-line transition exclusion (caulking gaps, sealing penetrations), most dealerships see a 85-95% reduction in October-November showroom bug activity. Indoor treatment after bugs are already inside works but doesn't compare to preventing entry — and indoor treatment in a customer-facing showroom has product-choice constraints that don't apply outside.
Will pest control survive a manufacturer brand-standard audit?
It should actively help you. Manufacturer audits increasingly reference pest-free facility standards as part of customer-experience and facility-condition scoring. A documented pest-management program with placement maps, service records, product SDS, and corrective-action logs is evidence you're managing the risk proactively — auditors like to see it. What hurts audit scores is visible live pest activity (showroom roaches, flies on glass, ants at coffee stations), evidence of rodent activity in parts or service bays, and no documented response. Our reporting format is built for manufacturer field representative review, not a generic commercial contract.
We have multiple rooftops under one auto group — can you service all of them with consolidated reporting?
Yes. We service multi-rooftop auto groups across the Indianapolis metro — Marion, Hamilton, Hendricks, Johnson, and surrounding counties. Each rooftop gets its own service schedule, dedicated technician rotation, and location-specific documentation, but you get consolidated multi-rooftop reporting built for dealer-group corporate and manufacturer audit review. Your GM or facility director gets one dashboard view, not a folder of individual-rooftop PDFs with mismatched formats.
Can you service during showroom hours without customers noticing?
Yes — discreet service is the default for dealership accounts. Most showroom and customer-area service happens before open (7-9am for a 9am showroom), during low-traffic windows (mid-morning weekdays, early afternoon), or after close. Service-bay rodent programs happen during normal service hours because they don't affect customer experience. Parts-department and exterior work can happen throughout the day. Techs wear business-appropriate uniforms, use low-visibility bait placements in customer-facing spaces, and avoid service during known high-traffic windows. We scope scheduling during the initial walk based on your actual showroom and service workflow — not a generic 'business hours' contract.
